My Literary Connection to Music

When I’m writing, I need total isolation. I’m not one of those writers that can sit in a coffee shop, with all the wonderful aromas, and write. That would be lovely though.

Would I say I get distracted easily? Not so much. I just need to be in my head.

I have a playlist for that. Yup, a specific playlist.  Spotify has great playlists for writing, reading or just about any activity or mood.  The difference with me is….I hear songs from those playlists and create my own…based on what I’m writing.

The playlist from my manuscript came together by accident. I love listening to relaxing music while I’m at work. And you know when a song just hits? It makes you stop what you’re doing for a single moment, just to enjoy its essence.  That’s what kept happening. Except it would make me think of a specific scene that I had written or was trying to write. The craziest part was the titles. No lie. It was like an omen, a sign telling me to keep going. Just ask my family.  I texted them every time it happened.

Want a sample? Might give you some clues.

  1. “On the Nature of Daylight” – Max Richter, Louisa Fuller, Natalia Bonner, John Metcalfe, Philip Sheppard, Chris Worsey
  2. “North” – Wings for Louise
  3. “Perceptions” – Mattia Vlad Morleo
  4. “Trick Mirror” – Jonny Martyr
  5. “Experience – Solo Piano” – Ludovico Einaudi

Has anyone figured out what my debut novel might be about, based on the clues?
